Telangana Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar handed over appointment letters to 20 transgender persons who bagged the job as security guards at Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL). Of around 400 people who have applied, 20 secured the job.

Handing over the appointment letters in Hyderabad on Tuesday (September 16, 2025), the Minister for SC, ST, Minorities, Disabled and Transgender Welfare said that the government will support transgender persons’ aspirations for the future. Their hard work will help others from the transgender community to secure opportunities. You must prove to the society that you are no less, he said.

Anita Ramachandran, Secretary, Women and Child Welfare & SC Development, said that other resources and facilities were provided for the community, including dedicated counselling rooms in hospitals, ‘Maitri’ clinics for mental health support, identity cards, skill development programmes, and financial assistance without banking linkages.

“Global majors like Google and Microsoft are showing keen interest in extending opportunities to transgenders. This appointment drive is expected to create a ripple effect across private and public sectors,” Ms. Ramachandran said .The State government has earlier facilitated community members to get jobs as traffic assistants in the Police department.
