Ernakulam district panchayat president K.G. Radhakrishnan has said that gestures like hair donation can instill confidence in cancer patients. He was inaugurating a meeting organised by Sahrudaya, the social work wing of the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese of the Syro-Malabar Church, on World Cancer Day on Wednesday (February 4, 2026).

The day was marked by a host of programmes across the city.

Sahrudaya director Fr. Jose Koluthuvellil presided over the meeting.

Free wigs were distributed to cancer patients on the occasion. Crisitha Tresa, a seventh grader, who donated her hair for the second time, and Shelfy Joseph, a role model for cancer survivors, were honoured.

Certificates were given to those who successfully completed wig-making training.

To mark World Cancer Day, a mega blood donation camp was organised by Orange Runners Club in association with the Kochi Corporation at Subhash Park, Kochi.
