PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss said on Friday that he would not “spare those around” party founder S. Ramadoss “if something untoward were to happen to him”.

While speaking at a meeting of the party’s district secretaries in Panaiyur, Dr. Anbumani, whose relations with his father have been strained, criticised Dr. Ramadoss’s supporters for turning him into an ‘exhibit’ after he underwent a routine angiogram procedure in Chennai recently.

“Dr. Ramadoss is doing well. The procedure that he underwent was a scheduled one. However, those who are with him ensured so many people met him and did not allow him to rest. When we were with him (before the estrangement), we protected him and wouldn’t allow anyone to even come near the corridor,” he said.

“He is 87 years old and has undergone an angiogram. He should not get an infection. This is about his life and safety. He was not allowed to rest,” he remarked. Saying the the PMK had lost several constituencies by “small margins” in the 2021 Assembly election, Dr. Anbumani urged the functionaries to ensure this did not repeat in the 2026 election.

‘Start poll work’

“There is time — start the work. Form booth committees and intensify the party work. I am giving district secretaries 20 days’ time — send details about how many members have joined the party and the details of the booth committees formed to party headquarters,” Dr. Anbumani said.

He said the PMK cumulatively had 72 MLAs, 16 MPs, six Central Ministers, and district chairpersons over the last 35 years.

“The party has produced so many leaders. But I am sad that we still have not been able to come to power,” he added.

He appointed former Gingee MLA A. Ganeshkumar as the president of youth wing of the PMK, which he is heading.
