A woman was seriously injured after her live-in partner allegedly attacked her with a machete, severing her right hand following an argument in Kadakkavoor on Wednesday (July 22, 2026).

The police identified the victim as Viji, 38, of Kadakkavoor, who works in Kottayam.

The incident occurred around 2.30 p.m. near a workshop where her partner, Anu, is employed. Viji had arrived in her hometown from Kottayam and went to meet Anu at his workplace, where a heated verbal dispute broke out between the two.

As an altercation escalated, Anu reportedly grabbed a heavy machete and hacked Viji repeatedly. She sustained deep slash wounds to both hands, resulting in her right hand being completely severed at the wrist. She also sustained severe head injuries during the assault. She was rushed immediately to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital, where she is under emergency medical care.

The Kadakkavoor police have taken Anu into custody. Domestic disputes between the couple are suspected to have triggered the violent attack.
