Nearly after one month, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Legislative Assembly and RDJ leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday (January 11, 2026) returned to Patna from his Europe tour. Soon after his arrival at Patna airport, Mr. Yadav accused the ruling government of winning the recently concluded Assembly election with the “money and manipulation”.
While speaking to the press Mr. Yadav said that he will not speak about the performance of the government for the first 100 days of its formation and will closely monitor whether the Nitish Kumar led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is fulfilling the promises made during the election in their manifesto.
“In Bihar Assembly election, the entire country is saying that Lok Hara Hai, Tantra Jeeta Hai (the people lost and the system won). They have transformed democracy into a system of money and manipulation. Everyone knows how the people will accept a mandate obtained through fraudulence, trickery, and manipulation,” Mr. Yadav alleged.
He further said, “I believe in positive politics, so I will not comment on the new government policies, decisions, and programmes for the first 100 days after its formation. However, I will continue to analyse the government’s actions with the people.”
Mr. Yadav alleged that in the double engine government, crime, corruption, bribery, migration is not a secret and the condition of education, healthcare and law and order is equally the same.
“We want the double-engine government to fulfil its manifesto promises, which included giving ₹2 lakh to 2.5 crore women in the state, creating 1 crore jobs, and establishing 4-5 large industries and factories in every district, among many other promises,” Mr. Yadav said,
He accused the State Government for distributing money prior to the assembly election.
“If they could distribute ₹150 crore directly in each constituency before the elections, then after forming the government, they should fulfil every demand of the citizens in every situation,” Mr. Yadav said.
Since the Assembly election results on November 14, 2025, Mr. Yadav remained aloof from the media and left for long vacation with his wife and children. However, he had attended the first day of the winter Assembly session and left Patna on December 2.
In between he was hardly active on the social media platform as well, except extending well wishes on the occasion of Christmas and New Year. Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in fact had taken a jibe on social media platforms by sharing Mr. Yadav’s photograph with the headline Lapata (Missing).
Reacting to his remarks, Bihar Janata Dal -(United) State President, Umesh Singh Kushwaha said that by questioning the mandate, he was not only expressing distrust in the democratic system but also insulting the people of Bihar.
“Such irresponsible statements from someone holding a constitutional post like the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly reflect his political immaturity and negative attitude towards democratic values,” Mr. Kushwaha said.
He further said, “The people of Bihar, trusting the good governance policies, development-oriented thinking, and historical achievements of the past 20 years under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The people have rejected the opposition’s politics of lies, confusion, and misinformation.”
The State President added that Tejashwi Yadav has not yet been able to digest his crushing electoral defeat. Mr. Kushwaha also said that to hide his political failures and shortcomings, he was now blaming constitutional institutions like the Election Commission of India for his defeat.
