Coldrif Cough Syrup — a medicine trusted by many — is now at the center of a tragic public health crisis. Since early September, at least 14 children have died in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan from suspected kidney failure. The common link? Coldrif cough syrup. The ministry said samples of Coldrif cough syrup, manufactured by Sresan Pharma in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, were tested by state authorities and found to contain 48.6% diethylene glycol (DEG) exceeding permissible limits. DEG is a toxic substance used in industrial solvents that can be fatal if ingested even in small amounts. In response, multiple states have taken action.
