The Centre has informed Parliament that the proposed airport at Mamnoor in Warangal has received in-principle approval from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹496.86 crore, including GST.
Replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha by Vem Narender Reddy, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said AAI has already floated tenders for key infrastructure works, including the runway, apron, taxiway and boundary wall.
The Minister, however, said the completion and operationalisation of the airport would depend on several factors such as land acquisition, statutory and mandatory clearances, financial closure and other site-specific constraints. No definite timeline has been fixed for the commencement of flight operations.
The Centre also said the Telangana government has submitted proposals for developing airports at Adilabad, Peddapalli and Bhadradri Kothagudem.
For Adilabad, AAI has conducted a techno-economic feasibility study for developing the airport as a joint-user airfield, and the required land has been communicated to the State government.
Regarding the proposed Greenfield airport at Peddapalli, AAI submitted its pre-feasibility study to the State government in February 2026.
In the case of Bhadradri Kothagudem, AAI carried out a pre-feasibility study in January 2025 at the proposed site covering Ramavaram, Chunchupally and Sujatha Nagar villages. The study found the site unsuitable due to surrounding hills and a railway line. On regional air connectivity, the Minister said 58 routes have been operationalised in Telangana under the UDAN scheme.
