Voters who participated in Campco society election in a spot

Voters who participated in the Campco Co-operative Society election two weeks ago are worried that the indelible ink still visible on their finger may cause confusion when they turn up to cast their ballots in the upcoming local body elections.

Several members of the Karnataka-based arecanut farmers co-operatives have raised concern after the ink applied during the 23rd November poll failed to fade even after repeated attempts to remove it.

Of the Co-operative’s, 30,000 members, 5,600 are eligible voters, including around 1,500 farmers from Kerala. A majority live across 37 panchayats and three municipalities in Kasaragod. Among them, 451 Kerala-based members had cast their votes in the Campco election.

With the ink mark still visible, voters fear polling officials may mistake it for the ink used in the local body elections, potentially causing confusion. Campco has already provided the district election wing with the list of members who voted as requested.

Kasaragod District Collector K. Inbasekar said the matter would be examined and necessary arrangements would be made to avoid any issues.
