Vizianagaram Collector S. Rama Sundar Reddy on Saturday urged residents to develop terrace gardens to enhance greenery in the city and foster closeness with nature, which he said would also help reduce the use of air-conditioners and fans at home.

Along with Municipal Commissioner P. Nallanayya, the Collector launched a plantation drive near Saibaba Temple Junction on Ring Road under the Swachh Andhra–Swarna Andhra programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rama Sundar Reddy called on residential welfare associations to take the lead in promoting greenery in their colonies and encourage every household to nurture plants in their surroundings.

He noted that the terrace garden concept was already popular in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, and should be replicated in Vizianagaram, known as the Fort City. He appealed to residents to plant saplings, adopt them, and ensure their growth.

Mr. Nallanayya added that the corporation, with the support of local communities, had been developing several parks across Vizianagaram.
