District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore on Wednesday (May 20, 2026) met stakeholders at the Collectorate to discuss the preparation of a Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region, in connection with the proposed Metro Rail project.

Representatives of SYSTRA, a consultancy firm associated with metro rail projects, made a presentation on the components of the plan, including underpasses, footpaths, cycle tracks, traffic surveys and phased implementation, given the projected population growth in the region up to 2055.

The representatives said the CMP was being prepared in line with Central and State government guidelines, and that preliminary surveys had been completed by May 2025. They added that stakeholder consultations were being held under the chairmanship of the District Collector.

Addressing officials, Mr. Kishore said departments and agencies, including the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), police, railways and National Highways, should submit their suggestions, objections and recommendations in writing.

He said the CMP would play a key role in the long-term development of the Visakhapatnam region and help ensure more efficient urban planning for future generations. Officials from the GVMC, VMRDA, the police, transport and the Roads and Buildings departments attended the meeting.
