Vijay’s Velankanni visit cancelled; visuals of supporters chanting ‘TVK’ inside Basilica go viral

With Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor Vijay cancelling his proposed visit to Velankanni in Nagapattinam district at the last minute on Saturday (May 2, 2026), chants of “TVK” from restive cadre reverberated inside the Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health Church in the early hours, with videos of the sloganeering going viral on social media.

Police sources said a large number of cadre and fans had gathered at the shrine from midnight following information that Mr. Vijay would arrive around 5 a.m. Many assembled inside the main church, raising slogans in anticipation of his arrival. However, they began dispersing after announcements confirmed that the visit had been cancelled.
