Tensions simmered in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad during the day after a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was found vandalised in Loni by unidentified miscreants on the intervening night of Saturday (April 18) and Sunday (April 19).

The incident sparked a sit-in, primarily by members of the Scheduled Caste (SC) communities, who demanded strict action against the culprits. The sit-in was called off a few hours later after the police assured them that strict action would be taken against the offenders. The protest caused traffic disruption on the Delhi-Saharanpur highway.
