Godavari Delta to be surveyed at cost of over ₹13 crore

The survey of the entire Godavari Delta, nestled between the Coringa and Kolleru ecosystems, will soon be conducted at an estimated cost of ₹13.42 crore to map the changes in the geography of the delta, announced East Godavari In-Charge District Collector Y. Megha Swaroop during the 77th Republic Day celebrations at Government Arts College campus on Monday.

The In-Charge District Collector said: “An aerial Light Detection and Ranging survey (LiDAR) of the Godavari Delta will be carried out in 2026. Tenders will also be invited for repair works of Sir Arthur Cotton barrage across the river Godavari at Dowleswaram with an estimated cost of ₹150 crore.”

On the road ahead in 2026, Mr. Megha Swaroop said that renovation of the century-old Havelock bridge is underway as part of the ₹94.44 crore Akhanda Godavari tourism project in Rajamahendravaram city.

Mr. Swaroop also announced that a fleet of 50 electric buses, out of the 100 sanctioned by the State government, would be deployed for public transport in East Godavari district by the year-end.

On Innovation through the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub, he said that at least 42 Start-Ups have been recommended for the incubation stage in the past one year. On the excavation of sand along the banks of the River Godavari, Mr. Swaroop claimed that 77 sand reaches are in operation across the district. 

In Kakinada, In-Charge Collector Apoorva Bharat announced in his Republic Day address; “As many as eight pacts have been signed to attract ₹58,850 crore investments for setting up of various industries in the district during the CII-Visakhapatnam summit-2025. At least ₹70 crore is being spent for constructing Flatted Factory Complexes at five locations – Jaggampeta, Vakalapudi, Pithapuram, Shankavaram and Hamsavaram – in the district. 

In West Godavari, District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani said that 63,995 acres have been registered and regularised of the 1.32 lakh acres under aquaculture in the district.
