All major rivers in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts have been on a spate on Saturday (October 4, 2025) also although the districts had witnessed little rain since Friday (October 3, 2025).

With the continuous heavy inflows from catchment areas of Odisha, the rivers such as Nagavali, Vamsadhara, Mahendra Tanaya and others caused floods in both North Andhra districts in the last few days.

The life of the people living in Vangara, Santhakaviti, Regidi Amadalavalasa, Gajapathinagaram and other places of Vizianagaram district turned miserable under the impact of floods. With the release of water from Thotapalli and Madduvalasa reservoir, the flood water entered several villages and paddy fields of Rajam Assembly constituency of the district.

More than 40,000 cusecs of water has been released from those reservoirs after alerting people living in low lying areas. The district received 1068 mm rainfall on Friday as against the average rainfall of 291.1 on the particular day.

Andhra Pradesh: Heavy flood flow in Krishna and Godavari Rivers, alerts issued

Vizianagaram Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy visited the flood affected areas and hoped that the normalcy would return in a couple of days with respite from heavy downpour. He directed officials of Revenue, Agriculture, APEPDCL, R and B other Departments to take urgent measures to minimise the impact of floods.

The Collector informed the Chief Minister’s Office over the relief measures taken by the government to reduce the impact of floods on public life. People of Srikakulam heaved a sigh of relief with the drop in inflows to Vamsadhara river.

Flood threat continues in Andhra Pradesh as Krishna, Godavari remain swollen

Around 47,325 cusecs of water was released from Gotta barrage constructed on Vamsadhara river. The irrigation officials released around 1.1 lakh cusecs of water from the barrage on Friday (October 3, 2025).

Srikakulam Collector Swapnil Dinakar said normalcy would be restored very soon with significant fall in inflows from the catchment areas. He hoped that water would recede quickly from the inundated areas of Pathapatnam, Narasannapeta, Amadlavalasa and other places.

Srikakulam MLA Gondu Shankar visited flood affected areas and instilled confidence among the people living in Kalingapatnam, Gara, and rural areas of Srikakulam. He suggested that the officials should be on alert for the next couple of days as a few areas would continue to be under flood water for some more time in Srikakulam Assembly constituency.
