The 22-day Vaikunta Ekadasi festival at the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple will begin on December 9 with the Thirunedunthandagam.

The annual festival is split into ‘Pagal Pathu’ and ‘Ira Pathu’. The Pagal Pathu begins on December 10. The highlight of the festival is the opening of the ‘paramapada vaasal’ in the early hours on December 20 on the holy Ekadasi day when devotees in large numbers are expected to converge at the temple to offer worship to the processional deity Sri Namperumal.

The “Ira Pathu” begins on December 20. As part of the festival, the Thirumangaimannan Vedupari event will be held on the temple premises on December 27. The festival concludes with the “Nammazhwar Moksham” on December 30.

The holy ceremony of ‘Muhurthakaal Naduthal’ (installation of a holy wooden pole) in connection with the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival was held near the thousand pillar mandapam inside the sprawling temple complex on Friday morning.

Elaborate arrangements would be made by the Srirangam temple authorities, the Tiruchi City Corporation and the Tiruchi City police ahead of the festival.
