After the Uttar Pradesh Education Services Selection Commission (UPESSC) postponed the U.P. Trained Graduate Teacher(TGT) examination, the government and recruitment body on Wednesday (November 19, 2025) faced criticism from students over the continuous postponement.

Aspirants raised concerns that it was the fifth time the examination has been postponed, adding the government system is playing with future of lakhs of candidates, who are jobless and facing a bleak future wasting prime years in the hope of government jobs.

A notice issued by the Commission dated November 18, 2025, reads, “In view of the Commission’s meeting number-45, dated 18.11. 2025, it is to inform everyone concerned that advertisement number- 01/2022, Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT), written examination which was scheduled to be held on November 18 and 19, 2025, has now been postponed. The revised dates will be announced later by the Board,”.

“The notification for the examination was released in early 2022, it was to be held in 2022 itself, later after protest by aspirants over delay, the dates of April 4-5, 2025, were fixed, thereafter the board announced May 14-15 as dates. Subsequently, it was declared that in July exam will be held, again the commission notified that on November 18-19, the exam will be held. Now, again the dates have been adjourned. Such a delay is impacting over eight lakh aspirants who have filed the form and consider this examination as a major step towards upward mobility. We are standing at a bleak future,” said Hemant Verma, an aspirant based in Prayagraj. Roughly 8.6 lakh aspirants filed the TGT form for 3,539 seats in government schools.

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission, established in 2023 is entrusted with the responsibility for the selection of teachers in government schools, aided non-government colleges and aided minority colleges, aided non-government intermediate colleges, higher secondary schools, schools run and managed by the U.P. Basic Education Board, aided junior high schools and their affiliated primary schools, aided minority junior high schools and their affiliated primary schools.

The opposition Congress targeted U.P. government over the continuous postponement calling delay as shameful. “Continuous delay for years in conducting examination is a criminal act against aspirants who are preparing for examinations. It is shameful that youths are forced to spent years jobless due to fault of the government system, investing lakhs in preparation and accommodation,” said Ajay Rai, president Uttar Pradesh Congress.
