Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has assured that the government is taking steps to address the problems faced by fishermen in the Uppada region, particularly those arising due to the impact of nearby pharmaceutical industries on their livelihoods.

Acknowledging the hardships faced by fishing families, the Deputy Chief Minister, in  a statement on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), said that while he has not been able to personally meet the fishermen due to ongoing legislative assembly sessions, discussions with district and state-level officials have been initiated to find solutions.

A special committee will be constituted, comprising senior officials from the Pollution Control Board, Fisheries Department, Revenue Department, the Kakinada District Collector, as well as representatives of fishermen and local leaders.

The committee will focus on resolving immediate issues, improving livelihoods, and developing infrastructure in coastal villages. It will also examine compensation for losses, including the insurance payments for the families of 18 deceased fishermen and damages to boats at Uppada Fishing Harbour, he said adding, officials have been instructed to take prompt action to ensure timely disbursement.

Mr. Kalyan also emphasised granting fishermen in Machilipatnam, Antarvedi, and surrounding areas adequate access to fishing grounds, highlighting the importance of prioritizing these matters even before the committee submits its formal recommendations.

“Under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the coalition government is committed to providing support and security to people facing hardships. The welfare of Uppada fishermen will be a priority, and after the assembly session concludes, I will personally meet the fishermen to discuss all issues comprehensively,” he  stated.
