As part of the celebrations of the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a two-day Ekta Nadige (Unity March) will be organised in Bidar on Friday and Saturday.

The event is being organised jointly by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Bidar, Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Sharma announced on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference at her office in Bidar, Ms. Sharma said that the Unity March will be conducted in two phases covering different parts of the city.

“On Friday, the march will begin at 8 a.m. at Bhoomareddy College and pass through Mailur Cross, Bomagondeshwar Circle, Basaveshwar Circle, Bhagat Singh Circle, Haralayya Circle and Guduge Hospital before culminating at Nehru Stadium. The main programme will be held at the stadium at 10 a.m.,” she said.

The second march, she said, will be organised on Saturday starting at Barid Shahi Grounds and passing through the Central Bus Stand, Madival Circle, Rotary Circle, BRIMS Hospital, Ambedkar Circle, Shivaji Circle and Guduge Hospital before concluding at Rangamandira, where the main event will take place.

“We appeal to students and the general public to participate in large numbers and make the event a grand success,” she added.

Compensation

Responding to media queries, the Deputy Commissioner said that all roads and bridges damaged during the recent floods have been reconnected and there are no disruptions in transportation.

“Compensation amounting to ₹69 crore has already been credited to the bank accounts of 96,510 farmers whose crops were damaged. The remaining eligible farmers will receive compensation within the next four or five days,” she promised.

Sugarcane price

Speaking on the ongoing talks about sugarcane price fixation, Ms. Sharma said that discussions are being held with farmers and factory representatives.

“At present, ₹2,750 per tonne has been fixed as the recovery-based rate, with an additional ₹50 each from the State government and the factories, totalling ₹2,850 per tonne. However, farmers have been demanding parity with the Belagavi rate which is not feasible due to lower recovery rates in Bidar. A consensus will be reached soon in consultation with farmer leaders,” she said.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner released a poster related to the Unity March. Mera Yuva Bharat District Youth Officer Mayur Kumar Gorme, Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations Manjunath Sullolli, Shivkumar Swamy and Channabasavanna Balate were present.
