The Telangana Government is actively working on establishing T-Engine as a not-for-profit platform envisaging to pool advanced laboratories, fabrication and testing facilities and venture-building services for Deep Tech Innovation in the coming days.
What resources will be available at T-Engine?
The T-Engine, unlike typical software incubators, supports hardware and science based innovation requiring capital intensive instruments, regulated workflows and long gestation periods. Anchored by the State’s leading research universities, the T-Engine’s Hyderabad hub would host core facilities, advanced materials and battery cyclers, bioprocess pilots, robotics and mechanotronics, power electronics and precision machining.
Regional access offices in 3 districts
The Government proposes to establish regional access offices in Warangal, Karimnagar and Nizamabad to coordinate access and logistics thus ensuring statewide inclusivity, according to the Telangana Rising Vision-2047 document unveiled by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday (December 9, 2025). Shared infrastructure would form one of the core functions of the platform consolidating laboratories and technical staff for startups and researchers, while residency cohorts providing IP, regulatory and investor mentoring would constitute the translational pathways.
The Government cited the MIT’s The Engine which demonstrates a successful model for tough tech combining a purpose built accelerator comprising specialised wet labs, fabrication, machining and support services referring to the global context for considering the platform. Coupled with Engine ventures which constitute capital plus academic-industry-government network, it would help bridge lab-to-market gap, convene an ecosystem through events and allow founders gain momentum through talent, partnerships and resources. The MIT’s accelerator operates substantial dedicated space near the institute with advanced equipment, which Telangana could adapt.
This would be complemented by the launch of a special purpose vehicle and commissioning two schools to operationalise the first engine. Thereafter, the mechanism would be expanded to six to seven schools, deepen global partnerships and scale the Engine’s capacity besides establishing a globally recognised innovation district meeting top 50 research standards.
Referring to metrics and governance, the vision document said a research metrics office would publish annual scorecards tracking PI (profitability index) counts, international hires, doctoral/post-doctoral throughput, facility utilisation, time to licence and graduate outcomes. “Funding links to audited indicators to ensure accountability and continuous performance improvement,” the document said.
