The number of ‘uncollectable’ enumeration forms of dead, duplicate, absent, and shifted voters has increased to over 57.5 lakhs in West Bengal, a day before the enumeration phase of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision is slated to end tomorrow, December 11, 2025, according to sources in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal.

Of them, over 24 lakh electors have been identified as dead as of Wednesday (December 10, 2025), based on data surrounding uncollectable enumeration forms in the State.

CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal on Wednesday met with Special Roll Observers (SRO) recently appointed in West Bengal by the Election Commission, and instructed them to thoroughly scrutinise entries before the publication of the draft electoral roll, in a final push before the enumeration phase ends tomorrow. This includes directions to election officials and SROs to check progeny voters mapping themselves to electors in the 2002 list, and to scrutinise the age difference between two electors claiming to be related as parents and children.

The Commission on Monday (December 8, 2025) had appointed five senior IAS officers as SROs, in addition to retired IAS officer Subrata Gupta, to monitor the ongoing SIR across different divisions of West Bengal and “to ensure that no eligible person is left out from enrolment and that no ineligible elector is included in the electoral roll.”

The draft electoral roll is scheduled to be made public on December 16.
