Noted tabla artiste Umesh Moghe will launch ‘Gen Z Grooves,’ a State-level workshop series for training young percussionists at Pookkad Kalalayam near Koyilandy in Kozhikode district on Monday (December 22). The project, designed by emerging percussionist Arjun Kaliprasad, will give an opportunity to over 30 students in Kozhikode district on the launch day.

Celebrated percussionists from various States will lead the upcoming district-level workshops in Kerala, which will culminate in Thiruvananthapuram in December 2026. Students who attend the master classes as part of the intensive workshops will be given the opportunity to connect with leading artistes in the field and explore openings for various scholarships.

According to the organisers, eminent tabla artistes and trainers will also be invited and honoured during the district-level workshops as part of popularising the art among youngsters. On Monday, veteran tabla artiste and trainer Sivadas Chemanchery will be honoured, they said.
