Two youths drown in Achenkovil river

Two Plus Two students drowned in the Achankovil river near Konni on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Deneesh Shibu, a resident of Konnappra, and Sebin Binoy, a resident of Payyanamon.

According to local residents, the duo along with one of their friends had ventured into the river near the Puthiyakavu Devi temple for a bath after their volleyball training session at PSVPM Higher Secondary School in Konni. They, however, were caught in a strong undercurrent while bathing near the bund. Local residents managed to rescue one of the students before the Fire and Rescue Services personnel arrived.

All three were taken to Konni Medical College Hospital, but Deneesh and Sebin could not be saved. Their bodies have been kept at the hospital mortuary and will be handed over to their relatives after postmortem.
