Two supporters of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) were injured after a quarrel with a neighbour over bursting of crackers as part of celebrations of the party’s victory in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The police said that the injured persons were S. Kumar, 30, and his brother S. Pradeep, 26. They are residents of Annandapatti village near Jolarpet town. They were members of TVK in the area. Initial inquiry revealed that along with other TVK supporters in the area, two brothers organised celebrations of the party’s victory in the polls by bursting crackers on the village road on Monday.
The police said victim and neighbour C. Dhanasekar, 29, was returning home after work when he was reportedly hurt by fire crackers. He questioned two brothers for bursting fire crackers on a key stretch in the village despite public movement.
The police said the brothers got into an argument with Dhanasekar and exchanged blows. In the melee, two brothers were injured. On being informed, Jolarpet police inspected the spot. The brothers were admitted to Government Taluk Hospital in Tirupattur town. A case has been registered. A probe is under way.
