Two persons were killed after the car they were travelling in hit a parked goods-laden lorry at Vinnamangalam village near Ambur town in Tirupattur on Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 48).

Police said the deceased were identified as A. Divyaman (50), a software engineer from Coimbatore, and his mother in-law Rosli (72). Initial inquiry revealed that Divyaman and his wife Lovely decided to admit his mother in-law at a private hospital in Vellore for treatment as she was not doing well in recent days.

Police said that along with his mother in-law, Divyaman and his wife were on their way to Vellore in their car when Lovely, who was driving the vehicle, reportedly lost control of the vehicle and hit a parked lorry on the stretch.

The IT professional and his mother in-law died on the spot while Lovely was unhurt. Immediately, passersby and other motorists rescued her. Based on the alert, Ambur Taluk police rushed to the spot. Bodies were sent to Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore. A case was registered. A probe is under way.
