Two youths were arrested by Walajah police for selling tablets (Tapentadol) in a dilapidated building near a railway station in Walajah town in Ranipet on Friday.

Police said the arrested persons were identified as K. Tharun, 23, and B. Arun, 24.

Initial inquiry revealed that, based on a tip-off to Ranipet SP Ayman Jamal, special teams were formed to conduct surprise checks in public places like bus termini, railway stations, and isolated buildings in the district.

Accordingly, a special police team was conducting a routine check near Walajah railway station when the team found the duo selling the tablets in a dilapidated building.

Police said the duo placed an order for tablets with pharmacies in Pune. The tablets were sent by couriers to them. Police were tracking mobile phones of suspects involved in the crime before they apprehended them in Walajah. A case was registered. Arrested persons were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is under way.
