The Kukunoor police on Saturday (March 21, 2026) retrieved the bodies of two other youth, who drowned in the Godavari River in Eluru district.

The Eluru District Response Force (EDRF) and the SDRF retrieved the bodies of G. Tejagna and P. Satish Kumar, from the waters. They were natives of Madanapalli and Vuyyuru respectively, said Eluru district Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiv Kishore.

Seven students went for a bath in Godavari on Friday (March 20), of them five drowned and the NDRF and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) retrieved three bodies after a few hours on Friday (March 20) itself, but two were missing and they were traced on Saturday (March 21) said Polavaram Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) M. Venkateswara Rao, who monitored the operation.

“Two youth, C.H. Deepak of Kalidindi and G. Harshavardhan of Vizianagaram, who escaped the mishap, had alerted the locals and the police”, Mr. Venkateswara Rao told The Hindu on Saturday (March 21).

The Kukunoor police registered a case and the bodies were sent to Bhadrachalam Government Hospital for postmortem, the DSP said.
