The Attapur police and the Hyderabad Task Force arrested two men within 48 hours for allegedly attempting to murder a 24-year-old man over a dispute involving unpaid wages of ₹2,100 in Chinthalmet.

The accused were identified as Syed Aftab alias Affu, 24, a driver from Suleman Nagar, and Akbar Khan, 28, a ceiling worker from Talab Katta. Police seized three knives, two mobile phones and the clothes worn by the victim and the prime accused during the incident.

According to the police, the victim, Syed Pashu, and Aftab had worked as goods vehicle drivers in Mumbai during May and June this year under an employer who allegedly owed Pashu ₹2,100 in wages.

After returning to Hyderabad about a week before the incident, Pashu repeatedly asked Aftab to help recover the amount, as it was Aftab who had introduced him to the employer.

Police said Pashu repeatedly called Aftab on the night of July 6 demanding the money and allegedly abused him over the phone. Aftab then asked him to come to his house and allegedly called Akbar Khan to join him with the intention of attacking Pashu.

At around 12.40 a.m. on July 7, Pashu arrived outside Aftab’s house along with friends. During an argument over the unpaid wages, Akbar allegedly tried to stab him with a knife, but those accompanying the victim intervened. Police said Pashu then took out a knife he was carrying, following which Aftab went inside his house, returned with another knife and allegedly stabbed Pashu in the right side of his abdomen, causing grievous bleeding injuries. The accused then fled the scene.

Police said Aftab is a habitual offender with two previous attempt-to-murder cases pending against him, while Akbar is facing trial in a murder case registered by the Mangalhat police in 2018.

A case has been registered under Sections 109(1), 111 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is underway.
