Two lawyers, 25-year-old Nivedita Gurupadappa Bannal and 26-year-old Haiyalappa Sangappa Killedar, both natives of Shorapur taluk, were selected as judges recently after successfully passing the third round of examinations held for the post.
They stood firmly in the midst of many hardships and prepared for the post of judges through determination and hard work.
“I had a specific goal when I got admission into a law degree course at Sir Siddappa Kambali Law College in Dharwad. From there, I continued my journey with the dream of becoming a judge. Putting aside the difficulties of personal life and continuing with dedication, smart study, hard work and consistency, everything is possible,” Ms. Bannal said.
Ms. Bannal’s father, Gurupadappa Bannal, is a lawyer practicing in a Shorapur court, while her mother, Basamma, is an accredited health activist.
“Immediately after the completion of my law degree in 2024, I started my practice in Shorapur and then moved to Bengaluru where I continued my practice in the City Civil Court. Meanwhile, using my leisure time, I prepared for the judgeship examinations. My determination and consistency helped me secure the 45th rank in the State,” she said.
Haiyalappa Sangappa Killedar, who belongs to a sheep-rearing family, has successfully passed the judicial officers examination and has been selected as judge by securing the 18th rank in the State.
He completed his law degree at Raja Lakhmagouda Law College, Belagavi, in 2022 and started practice in a court in Shorapur along with his father’s brother and advocate Basavaraj Killedar, who inspired and supported him for this achievement.
“To bring my dreams into reality, I studied relentlessly, faced examinations confidently and reached a big goal,” Mr. Killedar said.
While Yadgir district has gained a bad name for its poor educational records, these two young lawyers have taken the district to new heights by becoming judges.
“We wish them the best and hope that they will deliver justice for victims who approach court for relief,” both Mr. Basavaraj Killedar and Mr. Gurupadappa Bannal said.
