Muslim Youth League State president Syed Munawwarali Shihab Thangal said here on Sunday that the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) would back the Congress-nominated candidate for Chief Minister if the United Democratic Front (UDF) comes to power in the State. “We do not hold any specific opinion on the chief ministerial candidate. We will abide by the decision of the Congress high command, as has been the established precedent,” he said.
He dismissed SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan’s allegation that the Muslim League would be running the State if the UDF came to power, saying the people of Kerala would respond to such “reckless” remarks through the ballot.
