Three persons including the cash van vehicle-in-charge, a former employee of the complainant, and a police constable were arrested within 50 hours of the operation for the most daring broad day light ATM van heist which took place on November 19.

The police have seized ₹5.7 crore and arrested three people out of 30 detained and questioned on suspicion.

The accused had planned the heist three months ago and conducted recce to identify areas where there are no CCTV coverage, officials told The Hindu.

As many as 200 policemen have been deployed and were dispatched in different directions to track down others who are on the run.

Police faced many challenges since the accused chose areas where there were no CCTV coverage, used vehicles with fake numbers, and avoided mobile phones.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh announced cash reward of ₹5 lakh.

On November 19, in a daring daylight act, miscreants posed as RBI officials and intercepted a van carrying cash for ATMs, claiming that they needed to ‘verify documents’. The robbers then allegedly made the staff sit inside their car along with the cash boxes and drove towards Dairy Circle. After reaching the spot, the gang abandoned the staff and fled with the money.

The company vehicle belonging to CMS Info System Ltd. was transporting cash from a private bank in J.P. Nagar.
