A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Tamil Nadu government and Hitachi Energy to expand the latter’s Global Technology and Innovation Centre in Chennai with an investment of ₹2,000 crore. The MoU signed in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in the Secretariat is expected to generate jobs for about 3,000 professionals.
In a social media post, Mr. Stalin said Fortune500 giants were not just investing in Tamil Nadu, they were reinvesting and expanding. “Each reinvestment shows Tamil Nadu is India’s industrial leader and a trusted global partner for innovation and growth.”
Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa said that the Chief Minister on Wednesday met with Hitachi Energy’s leadership to finalise their next phase of expansion in the State – “a proposed investment of up to ₹2,000 crore which will create up to 3,000 new jobs – and these are all high-value, high-paying, hi-tech jobs.”
Their Global Technology and Innovation Centre in Chennai was already their largest global hub with around 3,000 engineers driving 1,000+ projects across 46 countries, and in just two years they are already expanding, the Minister said.
“This highlights the massive talent availability in Tamil Nadu. Every reinvestment and expansion is a testament to Tamil Nadu’s unmatched talent and pro-business environment,” he said.
Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, Hitachi CEO Andreas Schierenbeck, Hitachi India MD Venu Nuguri were also present.
