Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Sunday staged a Statewide demonstration objecting to the Election Commission of India’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Tamil Nadu.

The party organised a protest at Swami Sivananda Salai in Chennai, in which TVK general secretary N. Anand, TVK general secretary (election campaign management) Aadhav Arjuna, and senior office-bearers participated.

Speaking at the demonstration, Mr. Anand said the SIR exercise required a comprehensive review and that officials should be mandated to visit every household.

He said the Election Commission should consult all political parties, including TVK, and ensure that there were no errors in the process.

All-party meet

Mr. Arjuna questioned why the State government had not brought a resolution against the SIR in the Assembly. He said the State government should have convened an all-party meeting on this issue.

He also said the Election Commission should have released a short explanatory video to clarify the SIR process to the public.
