The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) appears to be keen on getting the elected MLAs quit from the Legislative Assembly and does not seem to be interested in developing the State, said Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam leader TTV Dhinakaran in Madurai on Saturday (July 11, 2026).
Speaking to media persons, he said that the act of resignations by six AIADMK MLAs was nothing but horse trading. By reducing the number of MLAs in the Assembly, the TVK feels that it would be safe, even if there was any danger to its government in the future.
On the part of the six MLAs, Mr. Dinakaran said that they have cheated the people of the respective Assembly segments.
“People voted in the ‘two-leaves’ symbol, which belongs to the AIADMK. Quitting the post and joining another party showed that they had no respect for the people. The six MLAs have failed in their duty and responsibility,” he said.
Assuming that a no-confidence motion is tabled in the Assembly, when the vote count takes place, the TVK stands to be at an advantageous position going by the numbers. Hence, their managers are getting the MLAs (six from the AIADMK) quit for a “consideration,” Mr. Dinakaram alleged.
In the true sense, he said, the TVK government or Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay doesn’t seem to be engaged in development of the State. “Even on Friday, during his visit to Karur, the CM, had chosen to attack the DMK and recalling the incident where in 41 people died last year which is now under investigation by the CBI,” he added.
Mr. Dinakaran also said that the TVK polled 108 seats accounting for about 35% of votes in the 234 seats in the T.N. Legislative Assembly. The NDA had secured 23% votes. Hence, it should be noted that the people have not given an absolute mandate to TVK or Mr. Vijay. “The TVK is not sure about sailing through safely for the next five years. To ensure there is no problem, they [TVK] indulged in weakening other party by asking the MLAs to quit to help them in reduced numbers in the Assembly.”
He said that the CM should address Opposition party leaders with dignity. “He [Vijay] has come to power only because of his familiarity in the celluloid world and people have not voted him for any service to the poor. With just a celebrity status, he should also realise that it might not work for long years. Thus, it would be better to maintain the decorum in public domain,” Mr. Dhinakaran said.
