A pregnant woman from the remote Battigudem tribal settlement in Charla mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district reportedly gave birth while being carried in a ‘doli’ (makeshift stretcher) midway to the hospital late on Monday evening.

The woman, identified as Ravva Bheema, had to be carried along the nearly 5-km forest stretch of the unmotorable road from her village to the road point in a ‘doli’ by her family members after she developed labour pains on Monday evening, sources said. She delivered a baby on the roadside minutes before reaching the road point at Tippapur.

A short while later, Bheema, along with her newborn baby, was shifted to the Primary Health Centre at Satyanarayanapuram in an ambulance from Tippapur. According to sources, both the mother and her newborn baby were in good health.

The incident yet again laid bare the monsoon woes of Adivasis living in remote tribal hamlets in Charla mandal due to lack of pucca roads to several interior tribal settlements in Bhadrachalam Agency.
