The leaders of Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (APPTD) Employees’ Union met Transport Minister M. Ramprasad Reddy at his camp office in Vijayawada on Friday and urged him to ensure immediate implementation of promotions of the employees pending for last six years.
In a representation submitted to the Minister, union’s State president P. Damodar Rao and general secretary G.V. Narasayya said though all lower-level clearances had been obtained for promotions of the employees and on August 28, 2025, even the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu gave a green signal, the related G.O. was yet to be released.
They said the inordinate delay had not only triggered unrest among the 6,000 employees currently waiting for promotions, but had also become a cause of worry for the 45,000 RTC employees.
Referring to the ‘Stree Shakthi’, the free travel scheme for women, they said in view of the inadequate number of buses in the APSRTC fleet, the government should purchase at least 3,000 new buses immediately and recruit 10,000 staff.
He said due to staff shortage, employees were forced to do double duties. It was important to increase the staff by the summer, as otherwise the additional burden on the existing staff may result on sick leaves in large numbers.
They appealed to the government to ensure payment of the ‘Stree Shakthi’ scheme subsidy amounts to the APSRTC every month without delay and urged it to clear payment of the ₹360 crore from August 15 to September-end immediately.
Employees’ Union leaders who met the Minister included MDA Siddiq, M. Shankar Rao, S.K. Mohiuddin, G. S. Narayana and Y. S. Srinivasa Rao.
