In the wake of a farmers’ protest in Chandigarh, traffic restrictions have been imposed on Monday (July 13, 2026), for several routes.
The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU-Rajewal) is holding a vehicle rally protest against the proposed India-U.S. trade agreement and other issues.
Chandigarh police have announced traffic restrictions for Monday (July 13, 2026), from 10.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on several major roads across the city.
The affected routes include the stretch from the Sector 51/52 light point to the ISBT Sector 43 chowk; the Sector 34-35/43-44 junction (South End Chowk) to the Sector 21-22/34-35 junction (Piccadilly Chowk), including the Aroma light point on Himalayan Marg.
According to the Chandigarh police traffic advisory, restrictions will also be in place on the stretch of road from Piccadilly Chowk to the Sector 20/21-33/34 junction on Dakshin Marg, including Kisan Bhawan Chowk and the Sector 20/30-32/33 junction.
The public has been advised to use alternate routes during the protest period.
Notably, on Friday (July 10, 2026), the farmer groups drove scores of tractor-trolleys, buses, jeeps and other vehicles on city roads here to protest against the proposed India-US trade agreement and other issues, including the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices.
On Friday (July 10, 2026), farmers, under the banner of the BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) and another farmer outfit, took out a rally from Sector 34 to Matka Chowk. The protesters demanded the cancellation of the India-US trade agreement.
Many roads witnessed bottlenecks due to the rally, with some commuters claiming they had to wait for a long time in the afternoon to pick up their children from school.
Long queues of vehicles were seen on some roads.
