Police said, in the first incident, the victim S. Thamizharasi, 34, was living with her three daughters in Thimiri village, after her husband K. Saravanan, a retired Army staff, died a few years ago. Initial inquiry revealed that, along with her children, Thamizharasi went to her mother-in-law’s house in Arcot town on Friday. On her return, she saw that the main door was broken. She checked the cupboard and found 18 sovereigns of gold jewellery, ₹53,000 cash missing.
In a separate incident on the same street, burglars decamped with nine sovereigns of gold ornaments and ₹47,000 in cash from the house of J. Kokila, 50. Police said that Kokila went to her relative’s house in Ranipet town and, when she returned home, found valuables and cash missing.
Based on the alert, the Thimiri police rushed to the house with forensic experts. Fingerprints were taken. Police have taken footage along the route where the house is located.
