A one-year-old boy died after he fell into the water tank in a house at Natham village near Gudiyatham town in Vellore on Friday.

Police said the victim has been identified as R. Chinna, son of the couple K. Raji, 33, who works in a private firm in Chennai, and R. Priya, 28. Initial inquiry revealed that along with his family members, Raji had visited his relative’s house at Natham village near Gudiyatham town a few days ago for festival holidays.

When the couple was chatting with relatives, they left the boy on the veranda of the house where he was playing with a few toys. After some time, they searched for their son.

Along with the neighbours, the couple went to the backyard of the house. They checked the CCTV footage of the house and found that the boy was walking towards the water tank. Immediately, the couple rushed to the tank and saw the boy.

Based on the alert, Gudiyatham Taluk police inspected the spot. The body was sent to postmortem to Government Taluk Hospital in Gudiyatham. A case was registered. A probe is under way.
