TN govt. sanctions ₹3,500 crore for Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam programme

The Tamil Nadu government has accorded administrative sanction for ₹3,500 crore for the construction of one lakh more houses under the Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam programme for 2025-26.

While ₹1,000 crore would be from the Scheme Component of Pooled Assigned Revenue (SCPAR), ₹1,000 crore would be from the Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) devolution grants and ₹1,500 crore would be from the State grant, according to the G.O. issued in this regard by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department.

In March 2024, the State government sanctioned ₹3,100 crore (unit cost of ₹3.10 lakh) for the construction of one lakh new houses under the Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam programme for 2024-25.

In March 2025, the State government sanctioned ₹3,500 crore (unit cost of ₹3.50 lakh) for the construction of one lakh new houses under the Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam programme for 2025-26.

In January this year, the Chief Minister made an announcement in the Assembly that one lakh more houses would be constructed under the under the Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam programme at a total cost of ₹3,500 crore.
