Tirupati district administration has fixed an ambitious target of increasing the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) by 18 per cent for the five-year period from 2024-25 to 2028-29, said District Collector S. Venkateswar.

After unfurling the national flag at the 77th Republic Day celebrations at the Parade ground here on Monday, the Collector said that the district and mandal level vision documents were prepared in tune with the Central and State government’s steely resolve on development as per “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision.

Accordingly, the GSDP is expected to go up from the current ₹68,675 crore to ₹1,59,090 crore. Similarly, the per capita income of ₹2.71 lakh will be taken up to ₹6.21 lakh by implementing mandal vision document. Under the P4 programme, 86,530 “Bangaru Kutumbalu” have been identified for poverty alleviation, out of which 64,239 families would be adopted by 4,526 benefactors, identified as “Margadarsi”.

Laying emphasis on tourism, the Collector laid emphasis on developing spiritual tourism, beach tourism, and leisure tourism by developing resorts. Similarly, the administration would focus on making Tirupati ready for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism, he said, recalling the inauguration of several star hotels in the recent past. He also called the recently held Flamingo Festival at Sullurpeta as a runaway hit among tourists.

The Fire Department sprayed water in the colours of the national flag. Cultural programmes, stalls and tableaux presented by various departments enthralled the audience. Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu welcomed the District Collector for the Republic Day parade, after which he received a guard of honour.

The tableaux by the Electricity Department stood first, followed by Agriculture and Horticulture Departments that bagged the second prize, while Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) came third. Similarly, the Animal husbandry, Fisheries and ICDS bagged the first, second and third positions respectively among stalls.
