Tiruchi-based orthography researchers K. Balakrishnan and Mathur B. Pavendan have deciphered an inscription in Sanyasi Pudavu, a cave shelter in the Courtallam hills in Tenkasi district, many years after its discovery.

After two-and-a-half years of research, the two have provided a cogent explanation. The inscription’s words ‘UM NERI GNANAVABI ELORE KAJAM KA EERU’, have been translated to mean “Your path is that of wisdom like a holy tank; Even if you take content from all water bodies in seven towns the essence remains one.”
