J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday (October 11, 2025) called upon writers “to correct false and fabricated narratives in the history books about Jammu and Kashmir.”

“The narrative regarding Jammu and Kashmir needs to be corrected by identifying the misinformation and countering it with verified facts. For decades, a manipulated narrative was propagated here in J&K,” Mr. Sinha, who was speaking at the 2nd edition of Kashmir Literature Festival at Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), said.

Referring to the past three decades of militancy in Kashmir, Mr. Sinha said, “Writers and media figures grudgingly admit that, out of fear of terrorists and their ecosystem, they were forced to promote the narrative being pushed from across the border in the Valley.”

He said the terror ecosystem has been dismantled. “Now is the time to present the true narrative of J&K, free from all bias and fear of guns, to strengthen the trust and accelerate socio-economic growth,” he added.

He asked writers to do research and use critical proof to challenge and correct misleading historical accounts. “During colonial era and after independence a certain group of writers distorted our history to shape their ideological agenda. Provide accurate and factually correct accounts challenging those lies,” the L-G said.

He said in the last few years, new writers have tried to do justice to the injustice done to the history of India, which is an excellent initiative. “Efforts are also being made to take Indian literature to the world, which is highly commendable,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

The function was attended by Lieutenant General (Retd.) D.P. Pandey; Shri Yuvraj Srivastava, Founder Srikula foundation and senior officials.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Sinha also laid a wreath and paid homage to army bravehearts Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh, who laid down their lives for the nation.

Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh made supreme sacrifice while conducting counter-terror operations in the Kishtwar Range of Kokernag battling extreme weather conditions this week.

“I salute the supreme sacrifice of our Army Bravehearts Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh. The nation shall remain forever grateful to the exemplary valour and selfless service of our soldiers. We stand in solidarity with the families of our martyrs in this hour of grief,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
