There are complaints of a tiger’s presence on the BEML campus here and the Forest Department has installed camera traps to ascertain the veracity of the claims.

Senior officials in the Forest Department said that there was a complaint from BEML authorities on Saturday who vouched for the presence of the tiger following which the authorities had begun monitoring the area.

Paramesh, DCF, Mysuru Wildlife, said based on the complaint, four pairs of cameras had been installed at vantage points on the sprawling campus of BEML. He said once confirmed, other measures, including setting up cages with bait to lure the tiger, would be taken up.

Meanwhile, a video showing a tiger walking along a well-paved road flanked on both sides by high compound walls topped with security fencing and purported to be BEML complex, has gone viral on social media. However, Mr. Paramesh said the staff was yet to ascertain its veracity.

It is pertinent to note that leopard sightings in industrial area on the outskirts of Mysuru is common and most recently, was reported from Infosys and RBI press.

There have been multiple incidents of leopards being sighted and trapped at the BEML campus itself. Tigers were spotted in Nanjangud industrial area in December 2023.

Of late tiger sightings in Mysuru district are being reported with unceasing regularity from human landscape and it was only on Thursday that the authorities trapped a tiger in Hunsur after local villagers complained of its presence.

Meanwhile, combing operations and monitoring is continuing in H.D. Kote following similar complaints by villagers who expressed concern over repeated cattle kill.
