At least three people were injured when a part of an old building gave way and fell over a makeshift eatery on Darga Street at Dashamakan in Chennai on Tuesday (December 2, 2025) evening. The incident occurred around 9.15 p.m., and the injured have been taken to the hospital.

The injured were identified as Hafeez, 44, Ayub Khan, 55, and Nisha, 48. Fire and rescue service personnel and Purasawalkam Tahsildar Kuppammal Ramu were at the site soon after the incident. The site was in Ward 73 of Zone 6 of the Greater Chennai Corporation. The old building was not occupied.

“There were two to three eateries there when the wall fell on the sheet (roof) of the eatery around 9.15 p.m. The couple running the shop and another person were injured. They were taken on an ambulance to KMC,” said Ziyaullah, a SDPI functionary at the site.

The SDPI functionary said this was the first time such an incident was being reported in the main area. “The building owner should provide medical treatment and support to those injured.” He also pointed to such old buildings in the area that posed danger to people in the area.
