The pug marks of a tiger were spotted in agricultural fields at Bahadurkhanpet and its surrounding villages in Karimnagar rural mandal on Tuesday, prompting the Forest Department to intensify vigil to track the movement of the big cat.

Forest Department officials swung into action after a villager claimed to have sighted a tiger in an agricultural field at Bahadurkhanpet.

They reportedly identified pug marks of a tiger on the earthen pathway of an agricultural field near Bahadurkhanpet on Tuesday. The officials immediately alerted the sarpanches of Bahadurkhanpet and three other surrounding villages to take precautionary measures.

Karimnagar district has the lowest forest cover in north Telangana, forest officials said. The tiger is believed to have entered into the district from either erstwhile Nizambad or Adilabad districts, they added.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, enquired about the reported tiger movement with the district forest officials. He asked the officials to take all precautionary measures to ensure the safety of villagers in compliance with the standard operating procedures.
