East Godavari District Collector Keerthi Chekuri on Wednesday (February 4, 2026) declared holiday for all the schools within a five-kilometre radius of Diwancheruvu on the outskirts of Rajamahendravaram city after the tiger entered Diwancheruvu Reserve Forest.

The Forest Department said that the tiger crossed the national highway and entered the Diwancheruvu Reserve Forest on Tuesday night. In an official release, Ms. Keerthi said: “The Forest Department team is tracking the movements of the tiger through drones”.

The team, constituted by the National Tiger Conservation Authority, is in the task of tranquilising the tiger as it entered the human habitations. The public travelling on the national highway have been advised to be cautious.

Ms. Keerthi has appealed to the public not to share any fake videos and photos on the social media plotforms as such acts would create panic among the public.

On February 1, the tiger preyed on cattle in Torredu village for the last time and travelled nearly 50 kilometers since then.

The transient male tiger, believed to be a native of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) in Maharashtra, is said to have swam the river Godavari via the Polavaram irrigation project to reach Rajamahendravaram outskits.
