Three passengers, including two women, were killed when an omni bus bound for Marthandam rammed a stationary private bus at Kottampatti on Tiruchi-Madurai highway in the early hours of Sunday (January 25, 2026).

Police identified the deceased as G. Sudarshan (19) of Chengalpattu, A. Mary Sudha (45) of Nagercoil and M. Kanagaranjitham (65) of Kovilpatti.

The police said both buses were coming from Chennai.

While the omnibus proceeding towards Thisayanvilai was halting on the road at Kottampatti, the other bus going to Marthandam had rammed against it from behind at around 5.45 p.m.

As many as 20 persons were injured in the accident.

All the injured were admitted to Government Rajaji hospital after they were provided first-aid at Government hospital in Melur.

Kottampatti police are investigating.
