Three persons have been sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment of murdering a 11-year-old boy in Anantapur district.

According to Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh, the boy Vishnuvardhan’s father S. Eranna of Tippanapalli village in Settur mandal had a land dispute with his brother Golla Chittappa.

On April 6, 2022, Vishnuvardhan went to his uncle Chittappa’s garden to drink water and picked up a mango and some groundnuts. Chittappa confronted the boy for entering the garden, and the latter replied that he also had a right over the land.

Enraged by this, Chittappa, along with the boy’s grandfather Golla Eranna and uncle Murukundappa, assaulted the boy and strangled him with a rope, resulting in his death. Later, the three accused wrapped the body in a tarpaulin sheet and hid it in a haystack before fleeing from the place.

Following the incident, the boy’s father Eranna lodged a complaint with the Settur police and an investigation was done by Kalyandurg Circle Inspector K. Srinivasulu.

The case was monitored through the District Court Monitoring System and the trial was supervised by Court Monitoring System CI Vijayabhaskar Goud and Kalyandurg Rural Circle Inspector Neelakantheshwar. Public Prosecutor Vanamala Subbalakshmi argued the case and examined nine witnesses before the court.

After hearing the arguments, Principal District Judge of Anantapur, E. Bhimarao, sentenced the three accused to rigorous life imprisonment and imposed fines.

In default of payment of the fine, the accused will have to undergo an additional three months of imprisonment.
