Ahead of upcoming Sankranti festival season, the Adilabad town police have launched a crackdown on sale of the banned ‘manja’, the glass-coated thread for flying kites, in the town.

On Friday, the Adilabad one-town police conducted surprise raids on three roadside shops selling kites and seized several bundles of the banned ‘manja’ worth ₹17,800.

According to the police, three errant traders have been booked for selling ‘manja’, the banned synthetic glass-coated string, endangering human lives. The police said the crackdown would continue across the town to check the ‘manja menace.’
