The ambitious city gas project in the capital city is expanding to more areas in the Thiruvananthapuram, Kazhakuttam, and Vattiyurkavu constituencies. THINK Gas, the agency implementing the project, expects to complete the city-based piped connection network by 2028.

The agency has so far laid the pipeline network in 591 km with an investment of ₹700 crore.

The work on laying the pipeline is in progress across several key locations in the city, with about 70-80% of the work completed on many stretches, which includes Vettucaud, Chakka, Vallakkadavu, Valiyathura, Beemapally, Perunthanni, Muttathara, Puthenpally, Manikkavilakom, Poonthura, Sreevaraham, Kamaleswaram, Shanghumughom, Palkulangara, Sreekanteswaram, Kazhakuttam, Kadakampally, Akkulam, Attipra, Kulathoor, Ulloor, Sreekaryam, Cheruvikkal, Edavakodu, Powdikonam, Njandoorkonam, Chellamangalam, Kinavoor, Karikkakam, Nanthancode, Vattiyurkavu, Kannammoola, Medical College, Muttada, Kuravankonam, Pattom, Sasthamangalam, Peroorkada, Kowdiar, Nalanchira, Kesavadasapuram, Nettayam and so on.

Sustainable energy

In the coming year, an additional 13,000 households in the city are expected to be connected to piped natural gas (PNG). Furthermore, a significant number of commercial establishments have expressed interest in switching from LPG to PNG next year, reflecting a growing demand for sustainable energy solutions, said the company officials.

In 2028, the agency aims to provide 16,730 house connections in Thiruvananthapuram, 23,237 connections in Alappuzha, and 33 commercial connections.

It has set up 22 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in Thiruvananthapuram, 15 in Alappuzha and nine in Kollam.
